Notes regarding time

It is a good habit to call ahead before attending an event, as sometimes events cancel; details/times/venues change; our system has a glitch or we make an error.

Description

The Manitoba Museum presents DOME@HOME, a weekly series of FREE virtual programming inviting Manitobans to explore the universe.

Join Planetarium Astronomer Scott Young every Thursday as we identify constellations and planets in the real sky, discover upcoming celestial events, and look at trending space science and astronomy news.

As pioneering Canadian astronomer Helen Sawyer Hogg always said, “The stars belong to everyone.” Learn how to find your stars and get to know the night sky, every Thursday at 7 pm.

DOME@HOME | JUNE 3 | 7 PM CDT
Next week the Moon passes in front of the Sun, creating a solar eclipse. Find out how and when to watch it safely, and why eclipses happen! Plus, get a preview of upcoming celestial events in June.

DOME@HOME | JUNE 10 | 7 PM CDT
In case you weren’t up at dawn, we’ll show view of this morning’s solar eclipse as seen from Manitoba and across Canada. We’ll also look ahead to April 2024, when the next total solar eclipse crosses the North American continent!

DOME@HOME | JUNE 17 | 7 PM CDT
Astronomers tell us that summer begins in the northern hemisphere on Sunday, June 20th at 10:32 pm Central Daylight Time. How do they know, and what does that even mean? Celebrate the Solstice with the Dome@Home crew and get ready for a summer of amazing skywatching.

DOME@HOME | JUNE 24 | 7 PM CDT
Finally, more planets are appearing in the sky… if you can stay up late enough for it to get dark. Both Jupiter and Saturn rise near midnight, and they are joined by the Moon for a few days at the end of June. Preview this celestial alignment and find out about our Dome@Home Summer Stargazing Specials in July and August!
