Find the Reindeer Hidden along the Sturgeon Creek Greenway

By Carmen Kaethler, Macaroni Kid Winnipeg March 18, 2021

As the weather warms up in Winnipeg, spending more time outside with your family is a great way to spend a day together. Winnipeg has a lot of great trails to walk and some of them offer a little bit 'extra' for the explorers. Check out the Sturgeon Creek Greenway beside the historical site of Grant's Old Mill, off Portage Avenue by Grace Hospital.

Hidden along the Greenway beside the mill, in the treed areas, you will find wooden reindeer doing all kinds of things. Don’t forget to look up as there’s some on gliders and in hot air balloons!

These videos were shot in the fall but the reindeer are hidden along the trail all year round. The local artist, Paul Leullier, keeps them updated and looked after on a regular basis.

The path is wide and paved so great for strollers and bikes with training wheels, you can continue the walk along the trail which goes under Portage Ave so need to cross the busy thorough way. On the other side is a plane the kids can checkout .

There is a parking lot on Booth Drive so you don’t have to worry about street parking. There’s also a picnic shelter that has bathrooms, although currently the city has not opened those for public use.
