Have the Birds Eating out of the Palm of Your Hands

at Birds Hill Provincial Park

By Carmen Kaethler, Macaroni Kid Winnipeg December 15, 2021

Looking for a fun activity outside in the Winnipeg area for the family this week? Head out to Birds Hill Provincial Park with some bird seed and nuts (they LOVE walnuts) to feed the chickadees and nuthatches. This has been a family favourite tradition in our house every winter. Make sure to bring your camera to take photos and videos as its definitely a memory making outing. My girls giggle as the tiny feet of the birds land on their hands. I've also seen friends get creative with the bird seed and put it on their kids hats to see them land on their head.

We do this on the Lakeview Trail which is accessed on the north drive. This is just before the turn off to Birds Hill Ranch. It doesn’t have a marker from the road like other trails do but you park at that overlook parking lot, walk across the field to get to the trail opening. That being said I’m sure most trails within Bird’s Hill will have birds coming to your hand

You can see our video on Instagram of the birds flying back and forth from our heads to eat seeds and walnuts. Check it out below ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡
