Dinosaurs in Winnipeg!

Do your little ones love dinosaurs?! We might not live in the Badlands of Alberta where we could explore the Royal Tyrrell Museum but that doesn’t mean Winnipeg doesn’t have some great places to hang out with the dinosaurs! And a short drive to Morden, MB you will find a few more.

1. It's official, The Assiniboine Zoo is open to the public as of Tuesday June 15 (if you are a member you can get early access on Sunday and Monday) again and they have a brand new exhibit...Dinosaurs Uncovered. This feature includes

  • Outdoors: 17 life-size, animatronic dinosaurs along a forested trail
  • Indoors: Museum-quality skeletons, fossils, and artifacts

2. Book a stay at the Victoria Inn where they have a Dino themed pool area and even a themed hotel room you can book ( 📸 @neverseecomesea ) *Check with current COVID restrictions to determine whether the pool will be open and if you need to make special booking arrangements

3. Head over to the Manitoba Museum and learn about the ancient sea (Lake Agassiz) that use to cover Winnipeg over 95 million years ago and the large marine reptiles that called it home like the Pliosaur – in the Earth History Gallery. *Check with the museum to determine if they are open based on COVID restrictions.

4. Take a visit to St Mary's Nursery & Garden Centre and visit their Dinosaur garden on the north side of their building (and then you have an excuse to buy some more plants 🤪). The girls really liked the Flinstone car that was there. They will be put away for the winter after November 1st so head out soon! They currently also have a mini maze indoors for the little ones to venture through in a one way direction, through pumpkins and ghosts for the fall.

5. Take a drive north on Keewatin to find the dinosaur mural on the side of Novus Profile Solutions (154 Paramount Rd) and stop to take a photo giving your biggest roar.

6. Plan to play a round of indoor glow in the dark mini golf at U-Puttz Amusement Centre which has an entire course themed around dinosaurs.

*Check with the museum to determine if they are open based on COVID restrictions.

7.  Take a Road Trip to Morden, MB for the day! You’ll be able to take photos at their roadside attractions, visit the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre to see Bruce and even play at Sharptooth Adventures an indoor play space that’s dinosaur themed. *Check with the museum to determine if they are open based on COVID restrictions.

8. Lastly you don’t even have to leave home for this one... pull out your smart phone and in google type dinosaurs. The 3D viewer option will come up for the T-Rex. You can then have fun having your kids pose for photos with them and then showing the pictures to them. They also have Velociraptor, Triceratops, Spinosaurus, Stegosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Dilophosaurus, Pteranodon, and Parasaurolophus. Click here for a great how to for finding 3D dinosaurs with Google AR on your smart device.
