Last Minute Canada Day Craft!

By Carmen Kaethler, East Winnipeg Publisher Mom June 30, 2017

Happy Canada Day!

I was looking around my house for an easy and quick craft my 4 year old and I could make for Canada Day today, when I realized that I had the supplies to make a ribbon kite - Canada themed!

If you don't have these exact supplies you can improvise or go in a completely different colour theme. This is also a great craft all summer long.

Supplies Needed:

  • Scissors
  • Red & White Plastic Tablecloths (In a pinch you could even use a white kitchen garbage bag!)
  • Red & White Pipecleaners (Again if you are improvising any ring would work, like a kids bracelet)

Steps:

1. Make a ring for your ribbons to fly from. I twisted two pipe cleaners together to keep with the Red & White theme before twisting them into a ring.

2. Create ribbons from your plastic by cutting strips. I made my strips approximately 2.5 - 3 feet long. I also folded the plastic multiple times so I was cutting less and making the ribbons look straighter (or that's the hope!)

3. Tie your ribbons to one area of your ring and you are done!

Enjoy watching your children running around with them at the festivities and other summer gatherings this year.
